Sunday lunch at Frédéric Ménager’s La ferme de la Ruchotte restaurant

Sunday lunch a sacred tryst at Frédéric Ménager’s La ferme de la Ruchotte restaurant near Bligny sur Ouche, the fixed menu at a simple farmhouse table, the room with a maximum capacity of 20 people. Today an amuse-gueule of pan-fried sheep’s brain coated in superfine breadcrumbs and garlic; then pate en croute (rabbit, chicken and pork), then coq au vin to end all coq au vins, the gleaming black sauce from several roosters’ blood and copious quantities of burgundy soaking up biodynamic vegetables – potatoes in particular – and endless pieces of dense home-made bread. Cheese and strawberry tart only just made it into gorged stomachs. A 2008 Meursault les Tessons soared above its station in life, a quite beautiful wine, and the 2002 Domaine Dujac Morey-St-Denis pushed all the right buttons. The cost for three was $290 or so. Great post.One of the true secrets of Burgundy. The food is always excellent. The Coq au vins at le bon bistro (cheaper bistro of rotisserie du Chambertin)is also very good. Short but interesting wine list including Esmonin, Maume, Bachelet and Trapet.
